Beschreibung:

Key Event: The Seneca Falls Convention is a key point because it had launched the Women’s suffrage movement which persuades the government and public to give women more power than they currently have. Without the convention, girls of today would be unable to have higher education or jobs without social stigma.

Defined: The Seneca Falls Convention, or the Woman’s Rights Convention, was created by five women who wanted to convince the government to provide social, civil and religious rights for women that are equal to men’s rights. With 300 people who attended, they voted on what women deserved, and Frederick Douglass gave a speech about the need for suffrage.

Described: The organizers, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Mary M’Clintock, Martha Coffin Wright, and Jane Hunt, had the inspiration to fight for women’s rights after attending the World Anti-Slavery Convention, and women delegates were excluded. The women were also frustrated with their social expectations as a mother who would stay at home and raise her kids. Thus, they prepared a Convention where they would discuss how to obtain better rights and social improvements.

Short Term: The convention launched the women’s suffrage movement, where expectations of women were increased and more women began to demand equality. People who were actively involved in the movement worked on educating the public about the validity of woman suffrage.

Long Term: Women obtain the right to vote, to attend college, and to work in more institutions. Women’s salaries also increased with their social standings in society.
