Bane discovers evidence of a precursor to the Jedi, the Valerians. They were a group of Force users of an ancient civilization, who would wield swords of a magic imbued metal, Valerian Steel. They rode dragons that were telepathically linked to them, and they had the same values as the Jedi. There were a few dark Valerians, like the Sith, as well.
