After the American Revolution, the idea emerged that it was the job of women to raise children to be productive members of the new Republican society, and thus should instill American values in them as they grow up. This idea was dubbed Republican Motherhood. The idea reinforced the idea that the woman's place was in the household, the so-called private sphere separate from the public sphere of men, however it gave dignity and importance to the position, which was important. (Effect: newfound importance in traditional women's roles in America)
