The Great Depression was a time of nearly worldwide economic suffering triggered by the collapse of the American stock market in 1929. It affected people from all socioeconomic classes, but most heavily the poor working class. The desperation caused by The Great Depression drove many people to support extremist ideologies, such asin Germany and Italy. Ultimately, it was the trigger for the rise to power of the antagonists of World War II.
