Beschreibung:

Prohibition was enacted by the ratification of the Eighteenth Amendment; it prevented the sale, transportation, or manufacturing of liquor. Many women petitioned for it because they believed it would unite American families and decrease crime in the United States. However, people began to smuggle in liquor from other countries, and the amendment led to a dramatic rise in crime and gang violence. It was repealed by the Twenty-First Amendment in 1933.
