The basic idea in Romanticism is that reason cannot explain everything. In reaction to the cult of rationality that was the Enlightenment. For example, the Enlightenment thinkers condemned the Middle Ages as "Dark Ages". But the romantics on the other hand idealized the Middle Ages as a time of spiritual depth and adventure.

In the romantic period people became more romantic- closer to feelings.
More places were discribed with feelings.
The romantic period also featured significant innovation.

Many Writers in the Romantic period emphasized feeling and imagination and looked toward nature for insight into the divine.

Many authour was active in the romantic period.
