After the end of the Persian wars, Athens Made the Delian league asking any cities to join them to push out any remaining perisans away. Sparta didnt like that idea because they were basiclly Persia 2.0 soto conbat that leage, Sparta and corith made a league together called it the Peloponnesian league to stop they delian league.
They wre basically the opposite of each other. Athens were like mostly stuck to Navy Army while Sparta stuck more to land. For a little Athens was winning like using their navy to block oof trade with the Peo. league but they soon Spatra begann to win becuaase a load of grain shipped to them had been infected with the plague and wipingout 25%-60% of their population losing a hugh chuck of their navy along with their leader. Sparta freed athen slaves from silvermine with damaged Athens Emcomey along with Sparta teaming up with perisa to build a navy and fought Athens untill they surrendered.
