Stamp Act imposed on American colonists by the British Parliament (14 Nov 1765 Jahr – 14 Nov 1766 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
After the Seven Years' war, the British were in debt, despite successfully gaining a large portion of New France (French colonies in North America). In an effort to tax American colonists to repay the English debt, the Stamp Act was invoked. Every printed paper, whether it be newspapers, legal documents, ship's papers, licenses, and any form of publication, including playing cards, would require a royal, British stamp, for which, the Colonists would need to pay tax. Samuel Adams's organized protests pressured the British parliament to repeal the act in 1766.
