William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately 39 plays and 154 sonnets. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway. Together they successfully had three children: Susanna and the twins Hamnet and Judith. Sadly Hamnet died early. Sometime between 1585 and 1592, Shakespear began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men.
During his lifetime he was most active as a producer between 1589 and 1613. At the beginning of his career, his plays was primarily comedies and histories. These are regarded as some of the greatest works produced in these genres. During his career, he changed from writing comedies to writing mainly tragedies until about 1608. Among these tragedies, we can find Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth. All these works are considered to be among the finest works in the English speaking literature.
Shakespeare invented at least 3,000 new words to the English language all this to make his poems more reasonable and sound more like rims. He was very influential and was also the first Profesional writer.
One of his 154 sonnets: Love's not time's fool:
"Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove. O no! it is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wand'ring bark, Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickle's compass come; Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon me prov'd, I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd."
