Toussaint L'Ouverture (30 Sept 1743 Jahr – 7 Apr 1803 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

Toussaint L’Ouverture (1743 - 1803):

L’Ouverture, born François Dominique Toussaint, was the son of an educated slave, and became a leader in the Haitian independence movement. Toussaint was not immediately part of the French revolution, but a few weeks after a large rebellion broke out, he joined the black forces. Soon, he noticed how bad the military strategy was of the untrained rebels and he started to collect an army of his own. He trained them with tactics of guerrilla warfare and was able to emancipate many slaves. When France went to war with Spain in 1793, he joined Spanish forces as a black commander. He was then knighted and recognized as a general because of extraordinary military ability. By 1795, he was adored and well known by blacks, and appreciated by most Europeans also because of his contributions to restore the economy.
