Beschreibung:

The first crusade was launched by Pope Urban II to both defend the Byzantines from the Muslim Turks and take back the holy land of Jerusalem. While the crusaders were successful in defending Byzantine from the Turks, they only managed to hold Jerusalem for less than a century before it was recaptured by the Muslims. The Crusaders also conquered many other areas and formed small communities on their way to the holy land. They were expelled from these places within about a century as well. (3.1)(3.2)
