Rapid rise of civilization in Greece was because of strong city-states. Trade developed rapidly, created the Olympic games, had military power, and developed more colonies in the eastern Mediterranean, and southern Italy. The fall was due to political decline, and the Hellenistic period consolidating Greek civilization.
