CLARA PORSET (1 Jan 1895 Jahr – 2 Jan 1981 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

Born in a wealthy family of Matanzas, Cuba, in 1895, Clara Porset would become one of the main references of Mexican design in the mid-twentieth century. Clara Porset studied in Paris at the National School of Architecture and Furniture Design with the architect Henri Rapin and during the summers I travel around Europe I would discover the philosophy of the Bauhaus.
At the Back Mountain College, located in North Carolina, he studied under the tutelage of Josef Albers in a design course called Vorkurs (a term previously applied to the preparation courses to enter the Bauhaus).
Clara returns to Cuba in 1932 and works as a furniture designer for various spaces such as residences and hospitals. During his stay in Havana, Porset made several collaborations in the professional and academic field; However, with the influence of communism in Cuba, the designer faced difficult conditions to work.
But an opportunity would be presented in Mexico, to impart during the summer, a Chair of History of Art at the UNAM. Clara would see in the country, the favorable condition for the artistic development and political activity of the hand of exiled groups and artists like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Xavier Guerrero.
Later he would marry the muralist Guerrero settling in Mexico and then make history together in the field of Latin American design. This is how the artist introduces the designer into popular arts and traditional Mexican furniture where Porset would leave its distinctive mark.
