Following the brutal terms put on Sardinia to ensure Hapsburg influence in Italy, a cultural roar occurred in Sardinia. Moral was out for another war to get revenge for the terms. The Sardinians began to remilitarize their nation and formed an military alliance with France; the alliance stated that in the case either nation was at war with more than one power, the other would assist.

Sensing political instability in the Austro-Hungarian empire, the Sardinians faked a diplomatic incident with Tuscany and invaded the nations' recently reclaimed exclave. This brought in the Rome Alliance [Two Sicilies and Modena] which in turn brought in France. As the Austrians were falling apart and the Germans were attempting consolidate their hegemony, neither aided the Rome Alliance.
