De Gama was born in a noble family in Sines, Portugal. Vasco de Gama sailed from Lisbon, Portugal to the East. People thought that Gama's trip would be impossible because it was assumed that the Indian Ocean was not connected to any other sea. He help us see that not everything is impossible and so it also contributed to the people belief of the earth being round.
