The English Civil War's main cause was religion. The king kept making stupid decisions and through that he lost the trust of the public, which led to arguments between the people and the whole Civil War was really just a bunch of little things that escalated into armed conflicts, instead of all being a part of one big battle. Anyway, it was a lot of just people supporting the Parliament over the crown, which led to the eventual execution of King Charles I
