"In the early 1970s, just after the Tanerbian Revolt, my paternal grandparents migrated from East Tanerbia to the United States to avoid persecution from the victorious (and some say wicked) forces from the West. As many East Tanerbians felt, migrating to the U.S. was an infinitely better option than remaining in the then newly unified Republic of Tanerbia. The West Tanerbians were known for holding grudges and car- rying out revenge killings, and many East Tanerbians, such as the Humanskys, sought and obtained asy- lum here. According to a New York Times article published in 1990 entitled, “A Tumultuous and Tattered Tanerbia Transformed,” almost 50,000 Tanerbians emigrated to the U.S. from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s."
