The Industrial Revolution originated in Britain and spread to the rest of the world. It is referred to as a revolution due to the extreme changes in the social, economic, and political aspects of the lives of the citizens. During the time period, there were advancements made in technology, the recognition of private property, the introduction of individual and economic freedom and lastly, the allowance of self-interest and competition economically.

The Industrial Revolution contributed to the development of classical liberalism in that economies began to move away from Mercantilism to Laissez-Faire Capitalism. At this time, there was a growing acceptance of rational thought and economic freedom.
