While attending SIGGRAPH 2012 (http://s2012.siggraph.org/), I discover a visual effects company called Rhythm & Hues.
I apply for a job there, get an offer, and move up to Vancouver to work as a Pipeline Technical Director.
I still don't really understand what a Pipeline Technical Director does, but I feel like I've finally made it.
I make friends. Canadians love me. They feel like I'm one of them. I tell them I'm an Oregonian and we're not that different.
I learn to program in Python while I make bug fixes and add a new aspect ratio mask feature for our in-house compositing software. I work closely with artists who need custom tooling to optimize their workflows.
