President Nixon visits China (21 Feb 1972 Jahr – 28 Feb 1972 Jahr)

In February of 1972, the President of the United States visited Shanghai, Huangzhou, and Beijing. The president visiting China was the start of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S as no president from the United States had ever been to China. Therefore, they had no connections. President Nixon going to China was arguably the start of China becoming a superpower as no 'outsider' had been to communist China before. The president said he wanted peaceful relations with Beijing and Asia. Later it was found (from his private archives) that he thought by making peace with China, he thought he could smooth things down with Vietnam (after the war) and the USSR too.
