China's one-child policy (1 Jan 1979 Jahr – 1 Jan 2016 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
The one-child policy was implemented by Deng Xiaoping in 1979, in an effort to bring down the rapid population growth. While the measure fulfilled the objective successfully, with an estimated reduction of 300 million in the first two decades, it also gave rise to fines, pressured abortions and prejudiced attitudes against female infants. Some experts have pointed out that the measure also aided economic growth, as parents spent less on living expenses and invested more in their child’s education, sparking one of the most educated generations. The measure brought about both progress and damage, but nevertheless had a part in shaping China into what it is today.
