The Christmas Peace (6 Dez 1919 Jahr – 1 Mai 1920 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
In the Christmas season of 1919, a large number of unofficial truces occurred between US and Vesperian forces across the Great Lakes and Maritime Fronts. While many of these truces would only last a few hours, some lasted days, with the truce in Detroit on Christmas day lasted well over three days before commanding officers dragged their men back to the trenches.
What would proceed was seen as a much larger version of what was nicknamed across North America as 'Trench Apathy'. During the fighting in trenches, an attitude of live and let live became extremely commonplace, with officers often having to resort to drastic measures to force their troops to continue fighting. While this phenomenon had largely stopped occurring outside of the prairies since 1916, it received a massive return in December of 1919, as many soldiers had now become well greeted with their enemy as friends.
Even following the massive spike in fraternization on Christmas, some groups continued meeting. Eventually, word of the 'truce' had reached higher levels of command in the US and Vesperia. Generals ordered particulars of those involved in the truce, with a view of disciplinary action, however no such action occurred.
Weather worsened, but the friendly mood remained in most areas [Though fraternization had largely ended]. In early January, both sides of the Niagara Trenches returning on mass, demonstrating a refusal to continue fighting. This was labeled as a mutiny, and the perpetrators were threatened with incarceration, many returning to the trenches.
Eventually word of the truce became widely reported, with the media painting a vibrant and romanticized picture of the event, gaining it widespread support across the US and Vesperia. Seemingly overnight, the public opinion of the war between the two nations turned backwards.
The generals of the countries would continue to use the methods employed by the Europeans in the 1917 mutinies, but to little avail. Strikes, anti-war protests, and even riots grew more and more commonplace in the border regions, until February 17 1920, with the signing of the Christmas Treaty.
This treaty marked the ceasefire between Vesperia and the United States. The two nations continued fighting and supplying their allies in Europe and Africa, however this marks the end of conflict between the two nations.
