Description: Between October 6, 1973 and October 25, 1973, the Yom Kippur War saw Egypt and Syria launch a surprise attack on Israel, with Egypt crossing the Suez Canal and Syria advancing into the Golan Heights, both initially making gains using Soviet-supplied weapons such as MiG-21s, SAMs, RPG-7s, T-55/T-62 tanks, and AT-3 Sagger missiles. The U.S. and USSR carried out massive resupply airlifts to Israel and the Arab states respectively, while Israeli counteroffensives—supported by U.S. arms - pushed Syrian forces back, crossed the Suez Canal into Egypt, and encircled Egyptian armies before a UN-brokered ceasefire took effect on 25 October.
