Dan 11:11  And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand. 
Dan 11:12  And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it. 

King of the South: Ptolemy IV Philopator (reigned 221–204 BCE)

King of the North: Antiochus III the Great

The Battle of Raphia (217 BCE):
After Antiochus III had invaded and taken much of Coele-Syria, Ptolemy IV finally mustered a large army and met him in battle near Raphia, in southern Palestine.

Both sides had massive forces—Daniel calls it “a great multitude.”

Ptolemy Wins:
Despite Antiochus's strong campaign, Ptolemy IV defeated him decisively.

Tens of thousands were slain—as Daniel 11:12 says, "he shall cast down tens of thousands."

The Seleucid army was routed, and Antiochus had to retreat and abandon his gains in Coele-Syria (for the time being).
