The Haitian Revolution was the most successful slave revolt at the time. The revolt was to abolish slavery in Hispaniola. Toussaint Louverture and many other freed slaves led the revolution. The Haitian people originally abolished slavery in Hispaniola. The French made peace with the slaves and abolished slavery in Saint-Domingue. However, Napoleon required more income for the Napoleonic wars. He reimbursed slavery in Hispaniola which led to the second Haitian revolt, this time for Independence. The Haitians fought with Guerilla warfare tactics. The French took major loses due to disease and eventually made peace. The French, however, made it so the Haitians would have to pay major war reparations in exchange for peace.
