Neoclassicism art (1 Jan 1750 Jahr – 1 Jan 1850 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

Within Neoclassicism, some popular movements and styles include: idealized portraiture, historical narrative paintings, mythological scenes, grand architectural designs, and the depiction of civic virtue.

Neoclassical art is characterized by clarity, symmetry, and a sober tone. During the early to mid 1700s, archaeological discoveries of ancient Greece and Rome sparked a lure toward artworks of the past. Influenced deeply by Classicism, Neoclassicism was the resurgence of the classical style of Roman and Greek art in the late-18th to early-19th by artists around the globe.

Popular artists from this time are Jacques-Louis David, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, and Benjamin West.

Although Neoclassical decorative objects borrowed shapes and motifs from Classical antiquity, they used contemporary materials, including porcelain and ormolu, both of which had become popular during the 17th and 18th Centuries. Silver was another popular medium used by Neoclassical makers in the decorative arts.
