- On June 17th, five men broke into the democratic national committee headquearters at the Watergate hotel and office complex in Washington D.C.
- This is when the spying case against the
Democratic National Committees
Headquarters started.
- 4 of the men were part of the CIA and the other one was the security chief of the Committee to Re-elect the President.
- Because these 4 men had to do with the presidets reelection, Nixon tried to cover up this event.
- This resulted in several convictions for Nixon, who even paid for the event to get coverd up.
- The hero of Watergate is thought to be the police officer Frank Wills, as he warned the police after discovering what was happening.
- The next president, Gerald Ford pardoned him.
