Also known as the October Crisis of 1962, the Caribbean Crisis, or the Missile Scare, was a 13 day confrontation between the States and the Soviet Union regarding the missile deployment in Italy and Turkey by the Americans, alongside the missile deployment in Cuba, courtesy of the Soviet Union. This confrontation became the closest the Cold War became to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war.
