Battles of Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis (1 Jan 490 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Jan 480 Jahr v. Chr.)

The Battle of Marathon was initially sparked by the Persian king, Darius the great’s anger towards the Athenians for the involvement in the Ionian revolt. The battle was fought between 30 000 Persian soldiers and 11 000 Greeks where the outnumbered Athenians had defeated the Persian armies. The battle of Thermopylae happened during the Greco-Persian wars where Persian King, King Xerxes attempted to gain more territory. King Xerxes attempt was then met by King Leonidas’ smaller troop of Spartans as well as an alliance of other Greek cities. The Spartans had lost the battle of Thermopylae due to a Greek citizen, Ephialtes, which led to their inevitable lost of the battle of Thermopylae. The battle of Salamis was a naval battle between the Greeks and the Persians where the Greeks defeated the Persian fleet off the island of Salamis.
