East Africa Campaign (5 Aug 1914 Jahr – 23 Nov 1918 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
German East Africa (modern continental Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi) was soon beset by British Commonwealth offensives through the port of Tanga in the southwest and near Mount Kilimanjaro in the northeast. Exploiting interior lines, German commander Lieutenant Colonel Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck defeated both incursions and forced them to withdraw. Overwhelmingly outnumbered in later assaults, Lettow-Voerbeck prolonged the fight for national honor and to draw Commonwealth Forces away from other theaters. At his peak he commanded 3,000 European troops and 15,000 African Askaris.
