Kansas-Nebraska Act 1854 (31 Dez 1853 Jahr – 1 Jan 1854 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act allowed settlers in Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether to allow slavery, effectively nullifying the Missouri Compromise. It led to violent clashes between pro- and anti-slavery settlers in Kansas, an era known as "Bleeding Kansas".
The Kansas-Nebraska Act divided the nation even further and shattered political compromises. The violent conflicts in Kansas would prefigure the wider conflict of the Civil War. The act also led to the collapse of the Whig Party and the rise of the Republican Party.
