One of the earliest Islamic historians and biographers. He is famous for his work Kitab al-Tarikh wa'l-Maghazi (The Book of History and Battles), which records the life of the Prophet Muhammad and his military campaigns. Al-Waqidi’s historical contributions are important for understanding early Islamic history, though some of his reports have been subject to scrutiny by later scholars.
