The Vietnam War was a war between the United States and North Vietnam regarding the issue of a communistic government overtaking the entirety of Vietnam. The United States fought on behalf of their ally, South Vietnam, or otherwise known as the "Viet-Cong" during the war. North Vietnam held a communistic government and was attempting to take over the south as well. The United States had the army and the equipment to fight the north, so they sent out troops by the first of November in 1955. This long lasting war held out for a whole 20 years, causing distress, hostility, and sadness among the citizens of America. Many began protesting the war, in hopes for their family members to come back and to finally end the war once and for all. The war had finally ended after the United States could no longer handle the immense causalities and damages to both their nation and its people in 1975. This resulted in communism overtaking the entirety of Vietnam, thus making America's attempts an unfortunate fail.
