The Salem Witch Trials were a series of trials from February 1692 and May 1693 in colonial Massachusetts that tested those who were accused of witchcraft and unholiness. Puritanism was a big religion during this time period, which contained many rules and morals to live by. This religion heavily impacted the actions of citizens who lived by this lifestyle, as well as the governing within these towns which began the insanity of this whole situation These "tests" were prosecutions that included hanging, burning, imprisonment to those who were found guilty of committing such crimes. This impacted the people within the area by causing stress, tension, and the breaking of many relationships. The stress was so high as no one ever wanted to be accused of witchcraft that it led people to turn on each other and go insane. People blamed one another of witchcraft to take the blame off of themselves and gain the trust of pastors. These trials ended once Governor Phips had dissolved the court of Oyer and Terminer, releasing all of whom had been imprisoned for witchcraft charges.
