Camera Degli Sposi
Mantegna (1 Jan 1465 Jahr – 1 Jan 1474 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
- From 1464 to 1474, Mantegna decorates in the ducal palace, a room later known as the
Camera degli Sposi (Camera Picta): it was one of the most important enterprises of his career
and brought with it immediate celebrity.
- Chiamata un tempo anche Camera picta (camera dipinta) → venne chiamata Camera degli
Sposi nel XVII secolo
- → depicts the members of the Gonzaga family
- → lots of references to antique motifs and architecture and allso this idea of the curtain that
opens up and introduces us in the life of the court
- → if we think back of the capela ovetari here we have the feeling that Mantegna is adjusting
the perspective and is more interested in representing court life and in showing the power and
the dignity of the Gonzaga family → changes the tune a little bit
- → increasing importance of the landscape which runs through the wall from one section to
the other
- → beautiful ghirlande → ancient influence
- The room is famous for its ceiling too → decorations that imitate marble and sculpture are
again a way of engaging with the antique and classical themes
- ↳ central oculo - opening in the center - we see this incredible and ambitious foreshortening
that wants to give us the impression that the putti and the people of the court are looking
down on the viewers → here Mantegna reaches a very high degree of naturalism with the
fruits and the leaves and also with the architecture
