His parents were Emperor Meiji and Yanagihara Naruko. His spouse was Empress Teimei and his children were Hirohito, Takahito, Prince Mikasa, Yasuhito, Prince Chichibu, Nobuhito, and Prince Takamatsu.
The emperor was physically weak and frequently ill.
