A campaign of violence by Stalin to eliminate dissenters in the Soviet Union, which resulted in the deaths of over 750,000 people and the imprisonment of over a million in Gulags (forced labor camps). Most of the Bolsheviks from the original revolution were assassinated, and the NKVD took many Russian citizens in the dead of night, never to be seen again.
