Beschreibung:

The Niagara Movement was a group, founded in 1905, calling for civil and political rights for African Americans. Its name orginated in the place where it was established - near the Niagara falls. The group consisted of African American intellectuals led by W.E.B. Du Bois, an African American writer, teacher, sociologist and political activist considered ahead of his time. The group pledged to fight for political and social equality for African Americans by means of 'persistent manly agitation'. The Niagara movement held izts last meeting in 1908 and disbanded in 1911 and is considered a forerunner of the NAACP.
