The Achaemenid or the Achaemenian Empire (/əˈkiːmənɪd, Xšāça, lit. 'The Empire' or 'The Kingdom'), also called the First Persian Empire, was an ancient Iranian empire founded by Cyrus the Great in 550 BC.
