Fulgencio Batista is a Cuban dictator and was used as a pawn by the US during the Cuban Revolution. He was a military officer and politician who served as the president of Cuba from 1940 to 1944. After his presidency he traveled throughout the US.

In 1952, aided by the US Batista formed a military coup overthrowing elected president Carlos Prío Socarrás. He was backed by the US no matter how brutal he got merely becuase of US fear for communism. He suspended the Cuban constitution that he himself implemented in 1940 and increased oppressive rules to any opposition. He open capitalistic markets and pushed US interest. Eventually foreigners owned 70% of the arable land.

In 1959, rebels under the command of Che Guevara defated his powers at the Battle of Santa Clara on New Year's Day. Batista immediately fled the island with an amassed personal fortune settling in Portugal until his death in 1973.
