Beschreibung:
In response to several uprisings and resistance from the Anglo-Saxons, William began the Harrying of the North where he destroyed villages, burnt crops and killed livestock.
Short Term Impacts:
-Around 100,000 people died.
-People had no food or shelter so began to freeze and starve.
-Thousands of refugees fled south.
-People resorted to cannibalism or selling themselves to slavery to survive.
Long-Term Impacts:
-The troops had ploughed the ground with salt so crops couldn't be grown for many years after.
-Removing many Anglo-Danes from the north reduced chances of rebellion.
-Anglo-Saxon nobles were replaced with Normans.
