Beschreibung:
Leading spokesman of the slavery movement was William, a prominent English philanthropists elected in 1780 to a seat in Parliament. He tirelessly attacked slavery on a moral and religious ground. After the Haitian Revolution, he attracted supporters who feared continued reliance on enslaved labor would result in more and larger slave revolts, and in 1807 Parliament passed his bill to end the slave trade. Under British pressure, other states also banned commerce and enslaved people, the US in 1808, France in 1814, the Netherlands in 1817, and Spain in 1845
