Lincoln wasn’t able to see the country heal as he was assassinated in April 15, 1865. The South needed to be rebuilt and this was now going to be Andrew Johnson’s job. Confederate States had a couple of task before being able to join the union like accepting the 13th amendment, new state government, cancel it war debts and more. The newly freed people tested this freedom by traveling, getting education and getting married without being separated. The South passed laws to limit the African Americans called the Black Codes.
