After Vietnam was divided into two parts both the North and the South wanted to reunite on the terms of Ho Chi Minh (communist). Of course the USA did want a communist takeover on the basis of the domino theory, therefore, they sent more and more soldiers and war equipment to the place, but could not win in the war.
