Beschreibung:

While studying at Oxford University to join the clergy, he created his “scheme of religion”, influenced by the ideas of the German protestant revival. He and his followers became known as Methodists, and they believed that the government was abusing the power of the Church of England, and that they were failing to provide for their people spiritually. They also were concerned with the rise in deism caused by the Enlightenment. He also disagreed with the doctrine of predestination.
