A protracted civil conflict has endured for over a decade between the northern and southern regions of Sudan. The northern enclave, with its focal point in the capital city of Khartoum, is primarily inhabited by individuals of Arab ethnic origin who adhere predominantly to the Islamic faith. In contrast, the southern regions accommodate communities practicing Christianity and traditional animist beliefs.
