Ingres (22 Okt 1795 Jahr – 16 Nov 1867 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres was a French Neoclassical painter whose portraits carved his legacy. He is a frequent borrower; His early work was similar to the Mannerists and he loved Raphael. Ingres and Delacroix were rivals. He was very ahead of his time, too much so to be appreciated, so he went backward.
The paintings he submitted to the Academy were mocked until 1801, when he submitted "The Ambassadors of Agamemnon in the Tent of Achilles." His work often seemed to turn back the clock in art, which was scorned as that was not something one did in the 19th century.
