Fidel Castro in his attempt to overthrow Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista succeeded and promised social justice and an end to corruption. He enacted various advancements such as in healthcare and education services leading to improved literacy rates. The collapse of the soviet Union however led to Cuba’s economic downfall.
