The Vikings invaded Britain in 793 AD, with raids throughout the next 300 years up until 1066
The Vikings originated from Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
The Vikings took over Northumbria, East Anglia and parts of Mercia. In 866 they captured modern York and made it their capital.
King Cnut, who was king of Denmark as well as of England. He worked in unity with the Anglo-Saxons to create a North Atlantic Empire involving Scandinavia and Britain
The vikings also spoke Old Norse, which added lots of new words to the English language (5% words exist today)
Some of these include ‘give’, ‘get’ and ‘knife’
