After the events of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers searches for a new home for the Skrulls out in space. Somehow this mission failed, as only 2 years later the Skrulls are back on earth and view Earth as their only hope. We still dont know what happened to the mission or to Carol during this period, as she is never heard from again until the end of Infinity War (2018) [ without aging mind you] and still has not returned after endgame to help the skrull again
